Today was Aubrey's frist pediatrician visit. She's gained 4 oz since yesterday! Definitely good news.
Like her parents, Aubrey loves to sleep. Can you believe she sleeps through the night??? We wake her up to eat once but I think she'd sleep the full 8 hours if we were to let her.
This next picture requires some explanation but TMI (too much information) alert - if you don't want to hear about breast feeding, skip to the next picture. Aubrey is a vigorous eater, and as a result my nipples actually started bleeding on the second day! So then we started pumping and feeding her the rest from a bottle. Well, the bottle was just a little too easy for Aubrey, and she stopped sucking at all, even when at the breast. Previously, the lactation consultant gave us this thing Ken's wearing, called a SNS (Supplemental Nursing System). The way this works is the skinny rubber tube is worn on the breast's nipple, behind a shield. When baby sucks, the SNS feeds instead of or in addition to the breast, giving the baby incentive to suck. Soooooo when we needed a way to continue to feeding Aubrey but give my breasts a break while somehow avoiding a bottle, this is what we came up with. I breastfeed until she pulls away (anywhere from 10 to 50 minutes) and then pass her off to Ken. Then Ken lets Aubrey suck on his pinky and the SNS tube is at his fingertip! The feel of his pinky finger is much more natural for her than a bottle nipple, and the SNS provides some resistance so that she still has to suck. It's working really well for us! And while Ken's pinky-feeding, I'm pumping.
I love when she makes eye contact with me. It literally makes me cry - when did I turn into such an emotional wuss???
When we put her down in the house, we've been using the carrier. When we get a swing, I imagine that'll be a better option, but this is working for now!
